I'm in the 93rd NY and was interested in having a company guidon made. I checked the Albany museum and sure enough they have one...it looks identical to a cavalry guidon. At first I thought perhaps there is a mixup and backed off the project...then I saw the photo of the 151st NY's one...the same thing! Does anyone know if NY State used them as a practice? Is it a coincidence? Or is a mixup?

As a side note I last heard that the museum has not gotten around to conserving the 93rd's flags and does not have it scheduled; and until then is not available for viewing. Does anyone happen to know if this has changed?

Any information appreciated.

Spence,

The flags are no longer housed at the Capitol in Albany, they are now housed at the New York Museum of Military History and Archives in Saratoga. I live about 40 minutes from the Museum., and I get out there pretty frequent. On my next visit I'll see what I can find out. I was just out there a few weeks ago researching the 115th NY Infantry for the Federal impression at our Bolivar Heights LH in November.

Dan,
I do appreciate it...whatever you can find out. I see the photo of the the 93rd's company guidon, but that is the only one photographed apparently. I know that either their regimental or national flag has some amount of blood on it, but don't know which one. If you could inquire as to that I would also be most grateful.

Thank you greatly!
Spence~

Spence,

Although it would be different from a Volunteer unit, the Regulars had camp flags that designated the beginning and end of the company streets. In Echoes of Glory (p. 291) there are pictures of two Camp Flags. Regulations dictated that the camp flags be 18 inches square, and made of white bunting.

-Hope this helps

Check this web store. EJ makes many flags both North and South. He can make a custom Guidon for you.
