Had a good meaningful day, started out in the morning at Skaneateles for the annual Memorial Day parade. We do this parade every year, and the parade route makes stops at several cemeteries along the way where we are an honor guard, firing volleys of salute at each. Very well received. We had a potential new fish fall in with us, Brian fit right in, and I think he is indeed hooked and that we will be seeing more of him. He says he would like to come with us to Amherst next month, that would make two brand new recruits with us at the Amherst event as we had another join us last month. We also had a fifer, Gary Slate, one of our comrades fall in with us as well. After the parade, some of us visited Oakwood cemetery in Syracuse and Woodlawn cemetery in Eastwood where we placed American flags on some of the 149'ers and other Civil War veterans graves. We visited and paid our respects to Medal of Honor recipient Henry A. Barnum, Col. of the 149th., (actually Maj. General Barnum at the time he died), Capt. Ira Semour, Co. E, 149th NYSV, Capt. George Collins, Co. K, 149th NYSV, Maj. Nicholas Grumbach, 149th NYSV, Capt. Jacob Knapp, Co. B, 149th NYSV, Color Sergeant William C. Lilly, 149th NYSV, Medal of Honor recipients Peter Kappesser, Co. B, 149th NYSV, Phillip Goettel, Co. B, 149th NYSV, and William Crosier, Co. G, 149th NYSV, as well as many other Salt Boilers. Great comraderie, and time well spent.
