My Geat great Grandfather was in the 149th Company B 1862-1863. He died at Chancellorsville May3 1863. His was Private Charles Deck Company B. Does anyone know how I can find more information on him. For instance I don't know where he was buried? Are there any unit Photos that might have Charles Deck in it? I am a family genealogist and would appreciate any information on my Great great Grandfather Charles Deck. He signed up in Syracuse NY in 1862.

Jerry,

Wow that's pretty awesome. Our reenacting unit portrays Co. B of the 149th NYSV. Unfortunately we do not have any pictures or info regarding Charles, other than that he enlisted at Syracuse on August 29th, 1862 at the age of 37. He was indeed killed at Chancellorsville on May 3rd, 1863. I will do some searching and see if I can find anything else about Charles, a lot of company B are buried in Woodlawn cemetery in Syracuse, I will see if I can come up with anything for you.
Thanks for posting. Take care.

Regards;

Dan

Thanks for the info on the cemetary site. I will look into that for headstone info.
Private Charles Deck was my Great great grandfather on my moms side . And ironically my great grandfather (Lt Charles G Miller) on my dad's side was at Chancellorsville also. In the 6th OHio Cavalry raiding Gen Lee from the rear in General Stonemans cavalry raid tearing up telegraph lines and train tracks. All on May 3 1863 the day Charles Deck died in battle in the 149th NY Rgt at Chancellorsville VA. So my two Grandfathers were not far from each other on that day. I plan on visiting the Battlefield this summer.
If you do get any more info I will greatly appreciate it.
Thanks again

I called Woodlawn Cemetary in Syracuse and they have been in business since 1881. So anyone who died and was in company B 149th may have been there after that year. But my Charles Deck died in 1863 and I was told that he wouldn't have been buried there. So my hunt is still afoot.
