Just a quick question I've been pondering, why do so many Northern people protray Confederate troops as opposed to Union, you don't really see the opposite down South, I've heard some people say, Union reenactors like the more regimentation that Union units protray, and Confederates just love being Rebels :), any thoughts on this....

I was always taught that there was similarities between upstate New Yorkers and many Southerners during the war. This is, of course, from a social and economic perspective. I think that the Union may resemble big business, or something, and many rural New Yorkers don't feel like they fit into that "machine." Then again, that may be an over analysis of the situation. Could be that Northerners just want to be, as you said, rebellious.

Your obedient,

When I wanted to get into the hobby I left my name and address with several units and the only one that responded was a confederate unit. Now after six years I'm still with the same unit mainly because of how little people of the north know about the confederate soldier and what they stood for. Hey Wilber I see your profile says your from Frankfort too.

I believe that reenacting should never be about what we do, it should be about what they did. That said I do both Union and Confederate.I feel by doing so I get a better understanding of what both were about.

Maybe, its because the North won, that you see a lot of people up here who protray either side at events, as opposed to a lot of people down South who wouldn't dare wear blue or their poor departed ancestors would roll over in their grave..I, myself chose Union because of my ancestors, but if the event needed it, I wouldn't have a problem wearing grey...Greetings Cpl. Gregory, I also reside in the thriving metropolus of Frankfort...I've watched your unit several times at Herkimer Church, you guys put on a good event, for the amount of land that you have to play with.Nice mix of artillary in your unit, and a great bunch of people to talk to...
